Climb Overview:
The climb follows the Machame Route, known for its scenic beauty and varied terrain. Over the course of 8 nights, you’ll hike through lush rainforests, rocky paths, and alpine deserts, all leading up to the summit, Uhuru Peak, at 5,895 meters. The itinerary includes a night of rest before the ascent and a night of recovery after descending, ensuring you’re fully supported and well-rested throughout.
Day-by-Day Breakdown:
Day 1: Arrival Night
Arrive and settle in before the adventure begins. You'll have time to rest and acclimatize in preparation for the climb ahead.
Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Hut
We start the journey with a scenic walk through the rainforest, gaining elevation from 1,820m to 3,000m over 12 km (4 hours). This is a relatively easy day to begin acclimatizing.
Day 3: Machame Hut to Shira Cave Camp
The second day takes us up to 3,800m, a distance of 6 km (4 hours). After lunch at Shira Cave Camp, we’ll rest and go for a short evening hike to help our bodies adjust to the altitude.
Day 4: Shira Cave Camp to Baranco Camp
We tackle a challenging day, covering 10 km in 7 hours. We’ll ascend to the Lava Tower at 4,600m before descending to Baranco Camp at 3,900m, a strategic part of the trek to help with acclimatization.
Day 5: Baranco Camp to Karanga Camp
A 6 km, 4-hour hike with a climb up the Baranco Wall to 4,200m before descending again to Karanga Camp at 4,000m. This day challenges you physically but rewards you with stunning views.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
We continue with a 4 km, 4-hour trek to Barafu Camp at 4,600m, where we’ll rest and enjoy an early dinner before preparing for the summit attempt.
Day 7: Summit Day
At midnight, we begin the final push from Barafu Camp, trekking through the night to reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895m. After celebrating at the summit, we descend to Mweka Hut at 3,000m for much-needed rest.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate & Recovery Night
The final day takes us on a 10 km, 4-hour descent back to Mweka Gate, where we’ll be greeted with certificates and the satisfaction of having conquered Kilimanjaro. You’ll then enjoy a night of recovery to rest, reflect, and celebrate your achievement before heading home.
