NEW DESTINATION: ZANZIBAR

MAY 10th - JUNE 7th

Zanzibar is a paradise for digital nomads in Africa, a place where time slows down and every moment invites you to live and work with more presence and purpose. From the spice-scented breeze to the rhythm of the tides, this island is alive with culture, history and natural beauty.

At AfricaNomads, we have created a home for remote workers, creatives and entrepreneurs looking for a space to focus, recharge and connect. The heart of it all lies in Jambiani Village, a peaceful coastal community on the southeast coast of Zanzibar.

Life in Jambiani

Jambiani is more than just beautiful beaches and turquoise waters. It is a living community full of Swahili culture and soul. Life here moves with the ocean as fishermen set out at dawn, children laugh along sandy paths and the call to prayer drifts gently through the palm trees.

Waking up in Jambiani means barefoot mornings, shared smiles and the gentle hum of village life. You will find spice-laced dishes served with warmth, traditional dhow boats gliding across the horizon and locals who welcome you not as a tourist but as a friend. This is where connection happens, between people, nature and purpose.

WHAT TO DO IN ZANZIBAR?

Zanzibar, together with Lamu Island, forms the beating heart of the Swahili coast. It is a place where centuries of culture, trade, and coastal life blend effortlessly with a laid-back island rhythm. From the winding alleys of Stone Town to the peaceful fishing villages like Jambiani, every corner of the island tells its own story. The air carries the scent of salt and spice, and life moves with the tide, inviting you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect. From sunrise dhow sails to glowing sunsets, Zanzibar is filled with moments that stay with you long after you leave.

Which places to visit as a Digital Nomad in Zanzibar?

Food is at the core of the Zanzibari experience and one of the best ways to understand the island’s identity. Influenced by African, Arab, Indian, and European cuisines, Zanzibar offers a rich culinary journey deeply rooted in heritage. You will find freshly grilled seafood on the beach, coconut curries full of spice, and the famous Zanzibari biryani. A visit to a local spice farm is a must for every digital nomad in Zanzibar, where cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon remind you why this island is known as the Spice Island. Every meal becomes a celebration of flavor, connection, and community.

Where to go in Africa as a Digital Nomad?

Culture runs deep through the island’s soul. From the carved wooden doors of Stone Town to the rhythms of taarab music drifting through village gatherings, Zanzibar’s heritage is alive and present. The island’s history is shaped by trade, migration, and resilience, and exploring it is an essential part of any retreat for digital nomads in Zanzibar. Discover museums, palaces, and cultural centers that bring this history to life, or learn directly from locals who share stories passed down through generations. Here, culture is not a display—it is a way of life.

No visit to Zanzibar is complete without exploring its vibrant markets and handmade crafts. Darajani Market in Stone Town is an energetic mix of colors, scents, and sounds, where fresh produce, spices, and artisanal goods fill every corner. In the smaller villages, you will meet local artisans creating woven baskets, seaweed soaps, and natural textiles. These markets are more than places to shop; they are opportunities to connect with local creativity and support sustainable livelihoods. For digital nomads in Africa seeking authenticity, they offer a glimpse into the daily rhythm of Zanzibar and the chance to bring home something truly meaningful.
